In Section A of TEF Canada written expression, you receive the beginning of a short article and write what happens next. You have 25 minutes and must write at least 80 words. This guide shows you how to plan a clear continuation and practise with an example.
How to plan your Section A answer
Read the opening carefully. Identify who is involved, what happened, where it happened, and when. Then imagine a logical continuation: what happened next, how the situation developed, and how it ended. You can include a short comment from someone involved. Keep the story clear and leave a few minutes to check your verbs, articles, spelling, and word count.

Un chien surprend les passagers d’un autobus
Hier matin, à Toronto, un chien est monté seul dans un autobus. Les passagers ont été surpris de le voir s’asseoir près de la porte.
Sample continuation:
Le conducteur a arrêté l’autobus quelques minutes plus tard pour vérifier si l’animal portait une médaille. Grâce au numéro inscrit sur son collier, une passagère a pu joindre sa propriétaire. Celle-ci cherchait son chien depuis le début de la matinée : il s’était échappé pendant qu’elle ouvrait la porte de son appartement.
« Je suis soulagée de savoir qu’il va bien », a-t-elle déclaré en arrivant sur place. Le conducteur lui a confié l’animal, puis l’autobus a repris son trajet. Aucun passager n’a été blessé, et cette rencontre inattendue a fait sourire tout le monde.
Why this answer works
The continuation follows the opening without repeating it. It explains how the dog’s owner was found, includes a short quotation, and ends the story. For your own answer, aim for a logical sequence of events and check that you have written at least 80 words.
